Lay Lin holds masters degrees in Social Work, and Family and Systemic Psychotherapy. She has more than a decade’s experience in community social work, serving in two family service centres.  Lay Lin also has extensive experience as a medical social worker having worked in both general and tertiary hospitals.
 
At the Institute of Mental Health (IMH), Lay Lin holds a caseload in family therapy and helms the department in social work education. Lay Lin is involved in Continuing Professional Education (CPE) with the National University of Singapore, in mental health social work. She is also a member of the teaching team with the Social Service Institute in family violence and the protection of vulnerable persons.
 
Lay Lin is also the deputy chair with the IMH Institutional Research Review Committee; serves as a scientific member of the National Healthcare Group (NHG) research ethics board; and reviews cases with Big Love Child Protection Specialist Centre. She is also a peer reviewer with the Singapore Medical Journal.
 
Lay Lin received MOH’s Healthcare Humanity Award in 2010, NHG Education Leaders’ Award in 2018, and National Day Commendation medal in 2019. Lay Lin’s passion is in couple therapy, family violence, grief work, and qualitative research.
