Alfred holds an MBA in Strategic Management. He worked 19 years in the private sector, including the last 10 years as the Head of Business Development with DHL International. In 1996, he was awarded the Bill Walden Award by DHL as one of the top 50 managers globally.
He joined Singapore Children’s Society in 1999 as their first CEO. Over the next 21 years, he built the organisation from a staff strength of 72 to 210, 6 centres to 14 centres and annual total income from $4.5 million to $24.2 million in 2020. Alfred’s key areas of contributions to the organisation were fund-raising, HR & organisational development, strategic planning, branding & media development. He was among the pioneer batch of Tote Board Scholarship recipients in 2009 at Stanford University, USA. He also helped Children’s Society to win the inaugural NVPC Best Non-profit Organisation Award and 2nd Runner-up in Asia Pacific NGO Award, both in 2004.
Alfred was an active public speaker at various national conferences. He is a member on the Panel of Experts for Young Parents Magazine and an passionate parenting talk panellist, as he was also a founding council member of DadsForLife. He was a member of the Singapore Delegation to the 34th Committee of UN Convention for the Rights of a Child in Geneva, Switzerland (2003), a member of the Inter-Ministerial Committee for Dysfunctional Families (2008), member of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Review & Reform of the Family Justice Courts (2018) and member of the Social Service SkillsFuture Tripartite Taskforce (2020).
