NCSS BTL 2021 Campaign-Social Post - AMY KANG

As a teenager, Amy Kang's friends found her very accommodating and friendly. Her kind nature was soon taken advantage of, triggering Amy's experience with mental health.

In school, Amy was traumatised by several bullying incidents and began hearing voices at night, walking around her living room staring at lights and talking to herself.

Soon after, she was referred to the Institute of Mental Health and diagnosed with Schizophrenia. As this happened in the 90s, stigma around mental health was high but Amy's family tried their best to understand and support her.

Now a single mother with a 14-year-old son, Amy does her part to dispel the stigma around mental health by sharing about her journey through various media. This, along with medication and regular check-ups with her psychiatrist, has helped her regain control of her emotions. Amy even works as a part-time delivery rider and spends the rest of her time on self-improvement.
