Volunteer Management System - Selection and Implementation Roadmap

Year Published 2020
The use of systems and processes in volunteer management are important elements to improve productivity and ensure volunteers are engaged meaningfully. Core stakeholders of a Volunteer Management System (VMS) agree that VMS is necessary for effective and efficient volunteer management. However, many face difficulties in identifying their needs and requirements for a suitable VMS. Hence, the Volunteer Management System – Selection and Implementation Roadmap (VMS-SIR) aims to guide Social Service Agencies (SSAs) through the process of selecting and implementing a suitable VMS.

The Roadmap highlights the importance of volunteers, describes the volunteer management process through NCSS’s Volunteer Management Framework, explains the need to go digital and how a VMS can benefit them. A step-by-step guide of the key activities during the search, selection and implementation of a VMS is also included. The VMS-SIR is to be used in conjunction with the Self-Assessment Tool.
