Social Service Connect 2024
17 July 2024
Themed “Fostering Connections with Next Generation Leaders”, the NCSS Social Service Connect 2024 gathered participants from over 200 member agencies to build connections and co-create an impactful social service ecosystem for future generations.
Event highlights
Ms Anita Fam (President, NCSS) and Ms Tan Li San (CEO, NCSS) shared updates on key highlights for NCSS in the past years and the road ahead. NCSS will be enhancing our role beyond membership and transitioning into a Sector Developer for the social service sector. This shift will enable us to adopt a broader ecosystem lens to better meet the changing needs of our service users.
As a sector developer, our journey entails:
Forging closer partnerships with key stakeholders to improve service delivery and resource allocation;
Enhancing capabilities of Social Service Agencies (SSAs); and
Nurturing a strong ecosystem supported by sustainable philanthropy.
In line with our evolving role, we are excited to unveil our refreshed brand and identity as we embark on this new journey.
For a recap of the key messages shared, please download the presentation slides: Welcome Address from Ms Tan Li San (CEO, NCSS) [PDF, 2.1 MB] and Sharing from Ms Anita Fam (President, NCSS) [PDF, 3.8 MB].
We are also delighted to have our distinguished guest, Mr Richard Eu (Chairman, Eu Yan Sang International Ltd.) share his reflections on his personal leadership philosophy and the importance of proper succession planning.
The Fireside Chat panel discussion, featuring Professor Anil Gaba (ORPAR Chaired Professor of Risk Management and Professor of Decision Sciences, INSEAD), Mr Nassar Zain (President, 4PM), Ms Rachel Ooi (Board Member, HCSA Community Services), and facilitated by Mr Terence Quek (CEO, Singapore Institute of Directors), explored the pivotal role of cognitive diversity on Boards. Their expertise and practical strategies provided deep insights into developing a fit-for-purpose board.

The event concluded on a high note with a performance by Cat Mountain Kings, a band led by Mr Richard Eu, where participants socialised with one another over renditions of classic tunes.
