Steps and levels
Basic | Intermediate | Advanced |
---|---|---|
Identify and engage with material stakeholders Participate in conversations for collaboration (e.g., through convening platforms such as the Community of Practice or the NCSS "3P" partnership framework). | Initiate and/or co-create testbed pilot projects Experiment with new solutions to address social issues and document their development, success or learning points. | 1. Build momentum and drive impact through collaborative philanthropy Galvanise ecosystem players to amplify efforts. This can be achieved through building multi-sectoral relationships (e.g., Public-Private Partnerships) to establish platforms and harness collective effort, necessary for the resolution of challenging social issues. |
Tips for SMEs and social enterprises Initiating or co-leading projects usually requires dedicated personnel to ensure their success. Since SMEs and social enterprises often operate with lean teams, SMEs and social enterprises can consider supporting projects that experiment with new solutions to address social issues. | 2. Cross-pollinate solutions to operationalise innovative sustainable philanthropy models Convene practitioners of Sustainable Philanthropy via exchanges and programmes to encourage businesses to share innovations in their business operation models that have enabled long-term, outcome-focused impact. This should include exploring beyond programmes and technology, to also include financing models (e.g., cofunding, blended finance, impact investing) |
Illustrative examples
UOB: Initiate and/or co-create testbed pilot projects
In 2021, UOB piloted a gig employment model as part of its effort to empower their retired employees while tapping on their skills and experiences. Such efforts are unique and can be seen to address priority areas such as "Empowering through Education, Awareness, and Skillsets" and "Enhancing Mental and Physical Well-being" where retired employees find themselves learning from younger colleagues on new ways of working and having frequent social interactions.
SG Enable: Build momentum and drive impact through collaborative philanthropy
Partnering with SG Enable (SGE), Mediacorp supports the Goh Chok Tong Enable Fund (GCTEF). The Fund aims to provide persons with disabilities the opportunities to actively contribute to society and lead socially integrated lives. To recognise the achievement of persons with disabilities, Mediacorp also works closely with SGE on the annual Goh Chok Tong Enable Awards (GCTEA) to motivate those with promise and potential to go the distance with their endeavour.
As a partner and national media network, Mediacorp supports these programmes by using its media network and personalities to create awareness and acceptance of persons with disabilities. They also actively rally the public to support GCTEF and GCTEA through donations and nominations, respectively. Within the organisation, they also strive to hire persons with disabilities and create an inclusive environment.
By leveraging the talents and expertise of its staff, the reach of its multiple platforms, and its network of partners, Mediacorp stays committed to supporting the community.
