Illustrative examples
Olam: Make continual improvements to the roadmap
Olam makes continual improvements to its roadmap of philanthropic efforts through Social Capital Impact Valuation exercises. One programme of theirs which leveraged on this was their coffee farming initiatives in the Honduras, which served to improve economic outcomes of households. The changes in the roadmap incorporating typologies of farmers has demonstrated more positive results for the programme.
During the course of the programme, Olam worked with farmers to evaluate output and outcome. They applied farmer segmentation for the interventions as this could increase their yield. Some components of the typologies include provision of training to farmers, cost reduction measures such as installation of infrastructure for harvesting rainwater etc. This application resulted in overall yield increases. In addition, even when yields decreased, farmers were able to charge a premium for higher quality.

Marina Bay Sands demonstrates a commitment to long-term philanthropic outcomes through consistent collaboration with non-profit organisations including the Community Chest over the years. This underscores Marina Bay Sands' commitment to supporting communities in need and dedication to sustaining community partnerships, leveraging combined resources and expertise to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those served.
Marina Bay Sands contributes in various forms, including venue and event sponsorships, monetary contributions, and staff volunteerism. An example of the sustained partnership with Community Chest is through the co-organisation of the annual Heartstrings Walk since 2011, which has since been a key event of the integrated resort’s annual signature Sands for Singapore Charity Festival.
In late 2020, Marina Bay Sands was connected by Community Chest to Care Corner to volunteer with the agency’s “Neighbour Cares” programme in Toa Payoh and has continued to support Care Corner till today.
