Dr Eric Hoo
Director – Translational Research & Senior Principal Clinical Psychologist
Dr Eric Hoo assumed the position of Director, Translational Research on 1 July 2024. Since joining NCSS in 2021, he has been responsible for the medium- and long-term planning and restructuring of the Translational Research division to support NCSS’s research priorities for the social service ecosystem. Eric currently provides strategic guidance on NCSS’s flagship research initiatives and ensures that the Division delivers impactful insights to inform practice, operations, and policies.
Prior to joining NCSS, Eric has dedicated his career to delivering forensic mental health services to young offenders. He successfully implemented an evidence-based systemic family intervention at the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF), which spearheaded the family-centred approach in rehabilitating youth offenders. His experience in evaluating family interventions has been instrumental in driving NCSS’s Sector Evaluation Framework.
Eric's long career and dedication to public service has earned him the National Day Commendation Medal in 2019 and the Public Sector Transformation Awards – Exemplary Leader Award in 2020. He was also conferred the COVID-19 Resilience Certificate in recognition of his substantive and direct contributions to the MSF National Care Project in Singapore’s fight against COVID-19.
Eric completed his Master of Science and Doctor of Clinical Psychology at the University of Sydney. He is a Registered Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
