Puar Ah Hoy
Amidst adversity, Mr Puar found solace and camaraderie at AWWA Senior Community Home, where community support empowers seniors to age with dignity.
The prospect of homelessness may be foreign to many, but for seniors without a strong social safety net, it can be a harsh reality. After experiencing a year of homelessness, Mr Puar discovered kinship and community at AWWA Senior Community Home.
Mr Puar’s life has been marked by numerous challenges, including being orphaned by 21 and health setbacks later in life. Despite these obstacles and limited family support, he worked tirelessly to support himself and strived to be independent. However, his health deteriorated following two strokes and a traffic accident that left him with a permanent limp and chronic pain, costing him his job and stability.
Choosing not to burden his family, Mr Puar resorted to rough sleeping at void decks until he was referred to AWWA Senior Community Home. Here, he found more than just a roof over his head; he found a supportive environment that fostered his growth.
With the support of AWWA Senior Community Home’s dedicated staff and diverse activities like exercise programmes and physiotherapy sessions, Mr Puar regained his strength and mobility. He even rediscovered his passion for playing the harmonica, entertaining fellow residents and even gracing public events with his performances. Through these experiences, he has fostered a sense of camaraderie and independence, embracing his role in the community.
AWWA Senior Community Home embodies the values of empowering seniors and providing vital community support, enabling individuals like Mr Puar to thrive and age with dignity.
