Using research to bridge gaps and shape policies
For Kate, research is more than just numbers, it’s about understanding communities in need and driving meaningful change. As a Senior Research Specialist at NCSS, she works closely with stakeholders like the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) to design and manage research projects that shed light on pressing social issues.

Her ability to translate complex data into practical insights ensures that policies and initiatives are grounded in evidence, improving the quality of life for those in need. By consistently asking the “so what” question, Kate ensures that findings have practical applications, creating a ripple effect. Whether it’s publishing reports, contributing to journals, or presenting at local and international conferences, her work ensures that decision-makers have the necessary information to create solutions that benefit the community.
Kate’s journey at NCSS has also been one of continuous learning. Through workshops, training, and conferences, she has deepened her expertise in public service frameworks and research methodologies. This philosophy of continuous learning enables both her and NCSS to remain at the forefront of thought leadership, driving innovation and excellence in her field.
Translating research into actionable insights
As a Research Specialist, Amanda plays a key role in ensuring that research moves beyond theory and is translated into action. By presenting findings to government agencies and stakeholders, she ensures that key performance indicators are tracked and understood.
Her ability to simplify complex data into infographics and public reports bridges the gap between research and real-world application. By fostering awareness and collaboration, Amanda helps ensure that NCSS’ work reaches communities in need and leads to tangible advancements in social services.

Amanda thrives at NCSS, where collaborative teamwork helps research achieve real-world impact.
Additionally, Amanda actively contributes through conference engagements, sharing insights and learning from peers. This exchange of ideas fosters innovation and keeps her and NCSS attuned to community needs. Her translational research addresses real-world challenges, leading to better outcomes for those in need and reinforcing NCSS’ mission to strengthen member capabilities, advocate for social service needs, and build strategic partnerships for a more effective social service system.
Thanks to individuals like Amanda, NCSS not only stays ahead in supporting communities but also fosters a supportive and nurturing culture for all employees. By prioritising work-life balance and encouraging collaboration, Amanda has found space to grow, excel, and achieve her full potential—both in her professional and personal life.
